To create this wonderful photo, I used a caring heart and patience.  Sure, there are technical details to the capturing the image but nothing is more important than being the right frame of mind.

Ernest Gonzales back in 2011 for SaTxMusic.. I literally had 10 minutes to get a photo of Ernest before he went on stage at the LimeLight on North St. Mary’s St.  Looking around and wanting to do something a little different, I noticed a taco truck and used it as a prop. When pressed for time, you have to use the resources around you. Camera was a Nikon D700 with a Nikkor 28mm f/1.4 lens.  Using a fast lens in low light allows me to isolate the subject from the background.  I like the 28mm lens because it gives the viewer a sense of being in the scene.  Although it looks like a snap shot, it was a carefully composed photo.

Charles Bedford of the John Jay Mustangs tries to make a shot from under the basket while Alan Delvalle of the O’Connor Panthers tries to block it. O’Connor held on to win the game 59-55 and improve their record to 16-10.  Images from the game can be ordered here.
An image like this just doesn’t happen, it takes quick reflexes and professional equipment. In this photo I was using a Nikon D3s and Nikon 70-200 f/2.8 zoom lens. Settings are ISO 8000, 1/750 sec @ f/2.8 and it was recorded in RAW format. Using RAW format is essential for getting the best image possible in tough lighting situations. I processed the image in Adobe Lightroom 3 and used a combination of sharpening and noise reduction settings to create this image. The only time I shoot jpg is when I’m outside in bright sun light.
