It takes a bond between a horse and rider to be successful in barrel racing. For this image, I used a Nikon D3s camera and a Nikon 200mm lens. I like to shoot at f/2.0 because of the shallow depth of field (DOF) separates the subject from the background. Exposure was 1/1500 sec @ f/2.0, ISO 4000. Click here to order images from the event.

Philanthropist Karen and Ronald Herrmann photographed in their beautiful home in Olmos Park for the University of Texas Health Science Center Nursing School Tribute magazine.  Click here for the magazine.  As the photographer for the UTHSC, my job is to take photographs that represent and support the school.  I photograph a wide variety of subjects and scenarios on a weekly basis. Money is tight, so it’s important to have a plan in advance and work as efficiently as possible. For this photograph, i used one light off center. Images were wi-fi’d to an iPad that the editor was holding. I prefer to work with the client to create great images, but there are also times when I work alone.

The time trial is a race of one rider vs the clock. There is no drafting or assistance from other cyclists, if you get a flat then your day is over. Every piece of the bike is scrutinized for optimal performance to slice through the wind. Even the clothes are carefully chosen, a flapping jersey or poorly pinned number (like the photo here) acts like a parachute and slows you down. Click here to purchase photographs.
